The Canazei Folklore Group

The Canazei Folklore Group

The Canazei Folklore Group was established to showcase the traditional costumes, dances, and music of the Val di Fassa (Fassa Valley) with joy and great pride.

Val di Fassa lies between the provinces of Bolzano and Belluno, in the Dolomites of Trentino, crisscrossed by the Avisio. At the foot of the famous Sassolungo and Marmolada mountain groups lies Canazei, the municipality with the highest altitude in the valley.

Its inhabitants are part of the Ladin people, who have lived in these valleys around the Sella mountain group for centuries and speak “Ladin”- a language with German and French influences that has its roots in Latin.

Before the arrival of tourism a few years ago, this valley was always very poor. Despite this, culture, customs, and traditions were rich and deeply rooted in society, though we now often tend to underestimate these.

From this perspective, the Canazei Folklore Group, along with other local folklore groups, provide great enthusiasm and encouragement to younger generations who’ll hopefully pass on these values inherited from our ancestors.

The Canazei Folklore Group often takes part in folkloristic events, both in Italy and abroad, with a repertoire of traditional Ladin dances and music.
